Per Dr. Carmen Finley:
According to Miles White, Jr., Thomas was born and lived most of his life in
Ryall?, his children being born there. He and his wife joined the Society of
Friends a short time after it came into existence. He is mentioned several
times in their early annals, and theri meetings were sometimes held at his
house. He suffered distress of goods, was imprisoned and otherwise perse-
cuted on account of his faith, as told in Besse's Sufferings. He and others
purchased and presented to the Meeting the burial ground at Mobberly, and
in his will left a legacy to the Poor of his town. He may have been the
Thomas Janny who was Mayor of Stockport in 1639. His will, dated 10 April
1677, is on file at Chester; his estate amounted to L53, 19s, 10d.
