Jon Patrick MCCONNELL

!LIVING
Jon was born on the same day as Mickey Mouse and grew up in Decatur, Illinois.
He graduated in Business Administration at Millikin University, in Decatur in
1950. He met Beverly McConnell in a Quaker commune in Philadelphia and
married in 1952. Starting in 1952 he served in the Navy as a Communications
Technician in Washington, D.C. where he worked with secret codes used in the
Korean War. At night he studied law at Washington College of Law. As a
result of having friends of many races and political beliefs during the
McCarthy era, he was labeled a National Security Risk. He finished law
school at Williamette College of Law in 1956. He started teaching Business
Law at Washington State University in 1957 and taught for 36 years, until the
Fall of 1993. From 1963 to 1966 he was a Police Judge for the City of
Pullman and the Judge of the District Justice Court in Whitman County. He
was the author of two textbooks, "Law and Business: Patterns and Issues in
Commercial Law," and "Hospitality Management: Avoiding Legal Pitfalls."
He was one of the most prolific writers in the College of Business Admini-
stration and he was an extremely popular teacher and was renowned for his
entertaining classes. For summer jobs he taught in Alaska and Nevada and
he was an attorney for Montana Legal Services where he worked on the Blackfoot
Indian Reservation and had some cases in tribal courts. On sabatical he
traveled to Mexico to study Mexican Law and also to New Mexico to study
Indian law.
