!As a youngster, Wilma did the things that a normal farm girl does, she herded
cattle, helped with the milking, cooking and other farm chores, such as working
in the garden.
!Wilma, attended rural a elementary school and Graduated from Stockton High
School in 1929.
!Wilma used the Normal Training she received in High School and summer school
at Fort Hays State College to teach in rural elementary schools in Phillips,
Ness and Pawnee Counties.
!During her years of teaching, she met another young educator, Leslle McFadden.
They were married by Rev Glenn Farr in Kansas City.
!Wilma and Leslle, lived on a farm in Pawnee Valley, in southeast Ness County,
where they were active in community affairs and activities. Wilma was involved
in Home Extension Unit, Cow Belles Chourus, and 4-H Leadership. The most
inportant things in her life, were her faith in Christ, her family and friends.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bazine.
!In 1976, Wilma moved to the Bissell's Point area near Great Bend, where she was
a member of the Cosmopolitan Club and of Central Baptist Church where she was a
popular Sunday School teacher of the Willing Workers Class.
!On September 1, 1987, Wilma moved to the Sedgwick Plaza in Wichita, She died at
WESLEY MEDICAL CENTER on October 20, 1987.
!Wilma will be remembered by her family and large number of friends as a devoted
Christian, staunch Republican, wonderful cook,and letter writer, par excellence.
!A memorial was established in Wilma's name, with The Leukemia Society of Amer-
ica, Inc., 1405 S Hydraulic, Wichita, Kansas 67211.
!Wilma, was preceeded in death by her husband, Leslle McFadden, her parents
John Reed and Ella May Chamberlain, a sister Franc Edwards, and brothers Willis
Reed and Charles Reed.
