!SOURCE OF THE FOLLOWING, (taken from JEFFREY BRANDT, COLLEGE PAPERS)
!One of Willis and Betsy Reed's sons was John Delos Reed. John was born June
17, 1862 in the city of Kankakee, Kankakee CO, IL, where his parents lived only
a short time before moving to Lowell, KS. John grew up during the Civil War
period of American history, and learned the ways of farming from his father
Willis Reed. After his marriage to Ella May Chamberlain, the "Rooks County
Record" declares he went on to devote his life to stock-raising and farming
where he "worked with his brother William buying and selling stock. John and
May were married on March 18, 1895 in the home of John's parents (Lowell, KS).
!Also, like his father, the Rooks County Record says he "was at all times
deeply interested in the political business of the community." John was even
County Commissioner once during his active farming years. A contributing
member of the community, he "had a large part" in the construction of the Rooks
County Court House.
!His wife, Ella May, was born near Pana, Shelby CO, IL, on September 14, 1875.
She was the daughter of Charles Edward Chamberlain and Martha Maria Biggs, who
was one of eight sets of great, great grandparents. Ella May, moved with her
parents from IL to the Lanark community in eastern Rooks CO, KS in 1878. After
completing the training of the normal school, she became a teacher and taught a
term of school in the Lanark Community. She marks the first of three
consecutive generations of teachers on that side of the family; Wilma Lois
McFadden and Kathleen Clair Brandt.
!According to the Rooks County Record, John died after a long, painful illness.
Probably Cancer, as a part of his chin had been removed.
