Eliphalet Chamberlain removed to Pineville (now Tompkins), Delaware County,
N.Y. as a young man, along with his brothers Calvin and Joseph, probably
sometime between 1800 and 1810. In any case he was enumerated in the federal
census for Tompkins in the years 1810, 1820, and 1830.
In the 1830 census there was a male 40-49 (Eliphalet), 1 male 20-29 (Albert),
1 male 15-19 (Selah or George), 2 males 10-14 (Eliphalet and ?), 2 males
5-9 (Calvin & Darius).
The family has not been located in the 1840 census. Probably after Eliphalet's
death in 1837, his widow and remaining children at home lived with one of the
elder daughters who waw probably married by then.
In 1850, Eliphalet's widow Julia and incompetent son Albert were living with
son George and wife and were enumerated in the 1850 census.
