Notes

According to a business directory from the "History of Delaware County,
Indiana" by Kingman Brothers, Chicago, IL, 1881, for the City of Muncie,
Indiana, Pierson W. Franklin's date of birth was 1848. Pierson was a
miller located on the corner of Second and Mulberry in Muncie, Delaware
County, Indiana.

In the 1860 census, taken on July 7, 1860, in the Liberty Township, Delaware
County, Indiana, page 62, is Pierson W. Franklin, age 11, born in Indiana. His
parents were William Franklin, age 40, born in Ohio and Ruth Franklin, age 33,
also born in Ohio. William Franklin was a farmer with a farm valued at $3,600
and a personal estate valued at $100. Brothers and sisters of Pierson W.
Franklin were all born in Indiana. They were Luther, age 12; Mary E., age 9;
Sarah E., age 7, John E., age 4, and Granville, age 2.

In the 1870 census, Ottawa Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota, Pierson W.
is listed immediately below his father. He appears as W. Franklin, age 21,
b. IN, profession farm laborer. His wife is shown as Ann Franklin, age 20,
b. OH. His son, William N. Franklin, was born in May of 1870.

In the 1880 census, Pierson W. Franklin was 32 and his occupation is listed
as "laborer," and he was living on 2nd Street, Muncie, Delaware County,
Indiana. His parents are shown as both being from Ohio while he was born
in Indiana. His wife, Abbigail age 31, was born in Ohio and both of her
parents were from Ohio. The children were William N., age 10, born in
Minnesota; Nora, age 7, born in Minnesota; Earl E., age 4, born in Indiana,
and Linda, age 3, born in Indiana.

Dessie Franklin a daughter was born March 18, 1886 and died September 5, 1887.

A son was born July 12, 1889 and died 9 months later.

On December, 1890 Abigail Ann Fisher, Pierson's wife, died, probably of
tuberculosis.

Pierson W. married Nora Jane Reznor on Jan 6, 1892. The marriage was
recorded in Book C-10, pg 144. She was Nora J Wagner who had married
Charles A Reznor on Apr 25 1890, in Delaware Co: Book C-9, pg 445.

In 1893 Nora and Pierson are listed in a city directory on 201 2nd Street,
Muncie, Indiana. His name was written Pearson Wall Franklin and his
profession is that of policeman. It appears at times Pierson went by the
name Wall. The cemetery site was purchased by "Wall Franklin" and the 1870
census record show him as "W" Franklin. Wall is probably short for Wallace.
Pierson's uncle's name was Pearson Wallace Franklin.

On July 24, 1898 William N. Franklin, Pierson's oldest son died, probably
of tuberculosis.

On December 10, 1899 Pierson married Mary Matilda Thornburgh Fox. It is
not clear what happened to the previous wife.

In the 1900 census, Pierson W. Franklin was age 51, born September 1848 in
Indiana. He worked for three to four days a week as superintendent of a work
house. He had been married zero years (meaning he had just gotten married)
to Mary M. Fox. She had had eleven children, seven of whom were living.
It shows he was born in Indiana and both parents were born in Ohio. His
wife Mary was born in Indiana as were her parents. He owned his own home
free of a mortgage and it appears he worked in a workhouse. Living with
them was a nine year old daughter named Mary Wilma Franklin. The location of
the census was Center Township, Delaware Co., Indiana.

Orrin D. Franklin, a 21 year old son, died, probably of tuberculosis, on
September 17, 1904. He was single and had last lived in St. Louis, Mo.

Orville G. Franklin, a 24 year old son, died, probably of tuberculosis on
January 24, 1905.

In the 1910 census Mary Matilda Franklin lived alone with her daughter and
one other relative in Center Twp, Delaware Co., Indiana.

Also in the 1910 census, Pierson W. Franklin lived by himself in Sedgewick,
Kansas and he was a restaurant owner. The census record shows he had been
married three times.

Most of Pierson W. Franklin's family died young. The family story is that
they were all infected with tuberculosis. William N. Franklin died in 1898,
age 28, Nora Franklin lived at least until 1900 and had two children but could
not be found afterward. Lula Franklin died young but we don't know the date.
Orville G. Franklin died at age 24 in 1905. Orrin Franklin died in 1904, age
21. Dessie Franklin died at nine months in 1887. A son died soon after birth
in 1889. Pierson's wife Abigail Ann Fisher died in 1890, age 41. Earl Franklin
was one of the few who survived but he died at age 48 in 1924 of an operation
for bleeding ulcers.
