June graduated from Fairbury, Nebraska High School in 1941 with a normal
training (teaching) certificate. The school year 1941/42 June taught in a
country school near Gladstone, Nebraska. She had 8 students in grades 1
through 8 in the one room school house. She had to build a fire in the coal
stove and do the janitorial work. All for $50 per month and room and board at
a nearby farm. The school year 1942/43 found her in a larger one room school
near Lincoln, Nebraska with about 15 students in grades 1 through 8 for $80
per month.
On Aug 1, 1943 she married Howard Brown. During World War II she followed him
to Columbia, South Carolina and to Washington, D.C. After the war they settled
in the Denver area. She worked about a year at Gates Rubber Co. From 1966 till
1978 she was secretary and later executive secretary for the Colorado Wool
Growers. She was able to be a very effective lobbyist for them and succeeded
in getting several bills through the Colorado Legislature to benefit the sheep-
men of Colorado.
From 1978 till her death June 12, 1987 she endured much chemotherapy and
radiation treating lymphoma cancer.
June was much loved by all who knew her for her cherry outlook and pleasant
smile and disposition.
