Third Generation

"This John Endecott inherited both Middlecott and Drewston and apparently
later acquired other large tin-mining properties. His oldest son and heir,
Thomas, died before him, therefore his will provided for the heirs of this
son. This will became a point of controversy and subsequently efforts to
contest it were made by our American ancestor, Governor John Endicott."

"The elder John distributed his estate in a normal fashion, with one
exception. He left his grandson John a total sum of 40 shillings. A
shilling is equal to about 1/20 pound, and so grandson John was practically
disinherited. This was apparently the result of a religious disagreement.
The family had long supported the Anglican church, however, the younger
John had become a staunch member of the Puritan community."
