Howard Jackson BROWN

!LIVING
Howard Jackson Brown was born 11-29-1923 in Lincoln Nebraska, at 415 North 28th
Street. (Born on Thanksgiving Day). He attended Elliot and Hartley elementary
schools, Whittier Junior High and Lincoln High School. He attended the Univer-
sity of Nebraska for two years majoring in mechanical engineering (1941 till
1943). In May 1943 he went to work for Gardner Denver Company in Denver. On
August 1, 1943 he married June Marcele Dawson. In November 1943 he was drafted
into the army. He was stationed at Fort Benning Georgia, and at Fort Jackson,
South Carolina. While at Fort Jackson he contracted polio and later was
treated for it at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. Later he was
assigned to duty at Walter Reed and stayed there till his discharge after the
war. After his release from service in May 1946 he returned to Gardner Denver
as a machine operator. He advanced there to instructor, leadman, tool
designer, instructor of the apprentice class, product design engineer, foreman
of the mills and drills departments, roving foreman, and finally plant engineer
for his last seven years till he retired in 1980.
