!OBITUARY:
EARL C. DROTTS
EARL C. DROTTS, 99, died Thursday, March 21 at St Francis Hospital in Wichita.

!He was born August 2, 1891 in Alcona Township, Rooks County, to August and
Ellen (Clampet) Drotts. He married Evelyn Reed on June 24, 1923 in Rooks CO.
She died Sept 24, 1988. He lived in rural Rooks CO, near Phillipsburg, most of
his life. He later moved to Hays. He had been a Wichita resident since Oct
1989.

!He was a farmer and had owned a filling station and bulk plant in Buchanan.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
and the American Legion, all of Stockton, and the Logan Masonic Lodge.

!He was a World War I Veteran.

!Survivors include two sons, Glenn, Wichita, and Norman, Topeka; a daughter,
Lucy Clouse, Hutchinson, Minn., nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

!Services were held Monday afternoon at Smith-Moore Funeral Home, Stockton,
with the Rev. Lyle Miller officiating. Burial was in Slate Cemetery in NW
Rooks Co. The family suggests memorials to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8873,
Stockton, Kansas.

Notes

Lydia was born 4 miles south of the town of Huntingdon. There is a hill
nearby still called Van De Vanter hill where the Van De Vanters lived.
There is a history of the Van De Vanter family at the Supreme Court dedicated
to Willis Van De Vanter who was a Supreme Court Justice. Her husband
served as a private in the War of 1812. She had eleven children, one born
in Huntingdon (Peter Mill Van De Vanter), the others born near Delaware Ohio.
They moved to Greenfield Twp (now Howe Twp), Lagrange Co., Indiana.
