The 1870 census in Grandview, Edgar Co., IL (p. 105) shows he worked
as a brick maker. This census shows children, which included LeRoy
Cook, age 18, brick maker, Serilda age 16, and Cynthia (spelled
Cinthia). These children were from a prior marriage of his wife.
Since he later moved to Henry County, IL, I he may have worked with
Robert F. Cook who was a brick maker in that county.
His 1880 census shows his father was born in New York and his mother
born in England. There is also a note that George W. Cook was crippled.
This is thought to be due to a Civil War wound to his arm.
In the 1900 census he appears in Jackson, Lyon Co., KS. He was shown
as age 54, born in Ohio, his father born in New York, his mother unknown.
It shows his month of birth as April, his year of birth as 1846 (which
is ten years off). He was a widow. His profession was a farmer.
