From the "History of Huntingdon and Blair Counties, PA, by J. Simpson Africa.

"John Brown was born in the north of Ireland in 1794. When about twenty-three
years of age he emigrated to America, becoming a school teacher at Lewistown
and McVeytown [PA]. On the 1st of April, 1824, he married Jane Porter, a
daughter of William Porter, of Henderson, and after teaching in Mifflin County
until 1835, he also became a citizen of the township, living near the Union
school-house. He died from injuries received from falling in his barn in
August, 1847, leaving a family of eight children."

From: "Wilcoxon Of Maryland-- A Preliminary Study"
By Donald Ray Barnes, Certified Genealogist
Prince George's County Genealogical Society Bulletin
February 1980, Vol. 11, No. 6, pp. 59-60.

"On 7 November 1740, Thomas Wilcoxon, Sr., planter, sold "Warwick" (100
acres) to Randolph Johnson, bricklayer, for L25 sterling of Great Britain.
Ruth Wilcoxon acknowledged. This would imply that William Wilcoxon,
youngest son of John and Magdalen Wilcoxon was either dead, had removed
from the area or had sold his land to his elder brother (1). There is no
further record of William Wilcoxon."

From: Wilcoxon Newsletter, Vol. I No. 2, article by Clair Wilcoxon entitled
"How many William Wilcoxons in Montgomery County, Maryland?"

"The 1733 tax list for Prince George's County lists Thomas Wilcoxon and
William Wilcoxon. (2)"

"Also in 1733, William Wilcoxon witnessed the lease of land called
"Plantation" from Thomas Wilcoxon to Jacob Jackson (3)."

"Probably all of the above references relate to William Wilcoxon, son of
John and Magdalen."
