Notes

George Jackson Fee was born in Huntingdon county in 1795. He served in
the War of 1812 and the National Archives have his application, dated June,
1855, for a land warrant related to his service. Those records show he volun-
teered in Huntingdon about August 1, 1812 for a term of one year. He was a
Private in Captain Robert Allisons 62nd Regiment of Volunteers, commanded by
General McClure. On August 27, 1812, he marched toward Fort Niagara, "Bounty
land." He was discharged at Black Rock in the State of New York in December
1812.

George Fee was a farmer most of his life. He lived on the homestead started
by his father in an area called "The Ridges," in Henderson township, of
Huntingdon county. In 1855 he moved with his wife and some of his children
to a farm near Fairfield, Iowa (where his daughter and (our ancestor), Sarah
Ellen Fee had moved seven years previously). The widow of his deceased son,
Jackson Fee, remained at the family homestead in Huntingdon county.

In 1860 George Jackson Fee was living at Black Hawk Township, Fairfield Co.,
Iowa, p. 132. He was farming by himself and had a farm worth $1,000.

The Fairfield Ledger, March 3, 1880, page 3, col. 5.
AN OLD CITIZEN GONE. In the death of Mr. George Fee, in this city on

well-known and respected throughout the entiry community. He was the son
of Col. Fee, a soldier of the Revolution and was born in Huntingdon
County, Penn. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, and came
to Fairfield in 1855, where he has resided ever since, his wife dying
here some years ago. He was the father of eleven children-- nine of
whom are still living, several residing in this county... At the time
of his death he was just past his 85th year. The funeral took place
on Sunday and was largely attended.
