Notes
Court documents related to an inheritance from his younger brother James indicated that Alexander was the oldest in the family.
Alexander and Rebecca McConnell, in 1806, came to Dayton, and entered a section of land lying just east of the National Soldiers' Home, which they cleared. They had five children, all but two of whom moved farther west. Thomas Jefferson McConnell
, in 1826, married Sarah Tyler, daughter of William and Judah Tyler, and in 1855 moved to Madison, Wisconsin. They had eleven children. Their eldest, Alexander, married Mary Johnston Bradford in 1855, and now lives on a farm south of Dayton, nea

He was in the 1809 tax records. There are two listings in the 1810 tax list. Also he was in the list of 1812 Ohio Taxpayers, p. 126. Three listings in the 1816 tax list. He was in the 1820 census, Dayton Twp., Montgomery Co., OH, p. 130. Pe
r descendant Ed McConnell, he founded Lexington, KY along with Colonel Robert Patterson. He came to Ohio in 1804 and first settled near Franklin, Ohio before moving to Dayton Ohio in 1806. He came with his brother William McConnell.
Alexander McCONNELL, moved into the latter State at an early day and then came into the wilds of Ohio, where he was a pioneer of Warren County. His birth probably took place in Maryland or North Carolina, and he sprang from a line of Scotch Iris
h ancestors, who came to this country prior to the Revolutionary War and took part in it.
A sister of Alexander McCONNELL married Colonel Robert PATTERSON, who became connected with the early history of Kentucky. Both the
PATTERSONs and the McCONNELLs were warm friends of Daniel BOONE, and went with the great Nimrod on many of his hunting expeditions.
After Alexander McCONNELL grew to maturity, he married Miss Rebecca THOMPSON, whose people were also early settlers in Kentucky, and prominent in military affairs. Mr. and Mrs. McCONNELL settled in Lexington [Fayette County, Kentucky], and in th
e latter part of the last century moved into Ohio. There
Mr. McCONNELL died, about the time of the opening of the War of 1812, in which struggle he bore a part, doing good service in many engagements,
including the battle of Piqua Plains. The wife of Mr. McCONNELL survived him some years, and made her home with her sons in Montgomery County, Indiana, where she died of old age. Both she and her husband were members of the Presbyterian Church.
Submitted by Cathy Kubly
He had a child baptized in Mercersberg on October 1774.
He lived near Lexington, Fayette Co., KY in 1780. So he is probably the Alexander McConnell who was in Fayette Co., in 1789, which later became Bourbon County.
