In 1850 he was living next to Flannery McConnell, age 60, born in Ireland. Possibly Flannery McConnell was an uncle. It's possible that the F in William F McConnell, Hugh McConnells first son, was for Flannery.

Notes

According to the Steubenville Land Office records, John McConnell purchased
land in what would be Carroll County, Lee Township, on September 1, 1814.
It was Range 4, Township 12, Section 27. Based on the best estimate of his
age from census records, he was about 22 years of age at the time.

According to the above, John McConnell was probably born (1791-1793). This
would make him too young to have been the John McConnell who married Elizabeth
Bell in Jefferson County in 1798. There was another John McConnell living in
Cross Creek, Jefferson County in 1812. It was more likely the Cross Creek
John McConnell who married Elizabeth Bell.

If the female above is one person, she decreased her stated age between the
1830 and 1840 census periods. Possibly her birth date was close to 1800, so
she calculated a little low in 1840. She had to have been old enough to have
Josiah McConnell in 1819.

A fellow researcher supplied the exact date in 1819 that Josiah McConnell, was
born. This matches all the above records.

Alexander McConnell, in Lee Twp. in 1850, looks like a son of John McConnell.
(He named his first son, John P. McConnell, who died as an infant). The 1850
census shows his age as 28, giving an 1822 birth date. This would make him
the second son, born between 1821 and 1825.

Margaret McConnell, who married in Carroll County in 1847, may be the youngest
daughter. In the 1850 census she is shown as having been born in Scotland.
If this is true, she could not be a daughter of this John McConnell. However,
here are no McConnell families in the area from Scotland, and it seems unlikely
a 20 year old girl would be by herself in Carroll County. So possibly this is
a mistake of some kind-- perhaps she meant her ancestors were from Scotland.
In any case, there was a daughter born in the years 1826-1830.

There is another daughter, slightly older, still not found.

John McConnell moved to Monroe County, Ohio in 1844.
