Notes

John McConnell came to Trumbull county in 1804. He erected a log cabin and
lived in it until his death on September 27, 1853.

John was the son of Matthew McConnell and Mary Alexander, and the husband of Nancy Travis , whom he married in Washington Co., PA on February 25, 1802.

Nancy and John were the parents of ten children: Alexander , John Jr. , Polly, Rebecca, Margaret "Peggy" , Matthew, Elizabeth, James C., William C. and Martha Jane McConnell . John, his wife, and infant son, Alexander came to Weathersfield towns hip from Pennsylvania in 1804. He erected a log-cabin in the woods, building it one spring day and moving in the next. They are thought to be the first white family to settle in the township. John was an elder and deacon in the the Presbyterian Ch urch in Weathersfield. He resided there until his death, which took place September 27, 1853. Nancy died January 26, 1842, and he was married again to Mrs. Lovinia Rice, who lived until January 17, 1881, reaching within less than a month the grea t age of one hundred and three years.
John inherited the sum of five dollars from his father, Matthew McConnell in 1824. He had previously inherited the sum of one pound from his grandfather, Alexander McConnell in 1793.
