Notes

Bashie Beth Tully, born Sept. 25, 1886, spent her youth at the "Home Place"
which was a large farm near Elyria, Nebraska. She had interesting experiences.
The farm was raided by Indians who helped themselves to anything they wanted
but did not harm them. Her father died when she was 15. She was seventh
of 12 children. After the death of her father the family moved to Lincoln,
Nebraska.

To earn her way through college, Bashie worked for Dr. Reed of the Nebraska
State Extension Service. This service provided education to people in rural
areas in need of an education or information. After Bashie graduated in 1910
from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Theater she worked for the
Nebraska State Extension Service helping rural schools by directing plays
throughout the state. She did this from 1910 until she was married to Louis
Clark Brown on 6-14-1916.

They had a mountain cabin in the 1920's in Chrisman, Colorado and they enjoyed
climbing the mountains. Both were very active physically and enjoyed the out
of doors. For about the last 12 years of her life Bashie was on crutches due
to injury to her hip caused by a fall. She enjoyed membership in AAUW and for
over 50 years she was active in reunions of the University of Nebraska class
of 1910. She always had beautiful flower gardens wherever she lived.
Bashie and Louis were active supporters of the Vine Congregational church in
Lincoln.

Politically Bashie was a Democrat, she was concerned about social justice and
believed that the government should help people in need. She strongly
influenced some members of her family with her values. Louis Brown told the
compiler that she was a good writer and had written speeches for some state
politicians.

Bashie's mother was a Christian Scientist and the family would visit doctors
only with great reluctance.

Bashie was buried in Ridge Cemetery at Fremont, Nebraska.
