Mary Jane McConnell was born October 1, 1870 on the Mechanicstown
farm of her father, Thomas McConnell. She had an education similar to
that of most young people in her day. Although she was known as a quiet
person by those who knew her in later life, she was a "hot rod driver" in
her youth. Her brothers learned early in life, to hitch only the fastest
horse on the farm when Mary Jane wanted to go someplace. She suffered a
broken arm one time when her buggy failed to make a curve. Mary Jane also
liked to dance and was known as an excellent dancer. She negelected to
mention her interest in fast horses and dancing to her daughter.

Mary Jane married later in life than most, as did her brothers. She was
34 when she married Jesse Atwood Heston, on January 11, 1905. He was born
February 11, 1869, a son of Manelon and Barbara (Long) Heston. They set
up housekeeping on the Heston farm near Agusta, Carroll County. Thye
lived there all their lives. Mary Jane died July 16, 1944. Jesse died
April 4, 1947. They had two children:

Russell 3/30/1908-7/7/1938 nm
