The Martial Arts
       After-School Program

The after school program is focused on youths ages 5-14, which is a significant gap, but it also allows for learning from all parties. We mainly focus on homework assistance and tutoring for those students that need the extra help. Many of them are not at their reading level and extra time is allotted to them so that they can progress with their peers.

The goal of the martial arts activities is to teach them to defend themselves in difficult situations, and to learn the importance of modesty, self-confidence and discipline.

The martial arts program is an incentive for those who have completed their homework and reading assignments. Students are placed into reading groups and are responsible for the group's performance. At the end of the month or two, depending on the progress, students will be rewarded for their reading with a pizza party, a field trip or any other appropriate prize.

Our goal for these students is that they will be better behaved, become better learners and become more interested in the experience of learning and becoming educated in several areas of their interest. We hope that not only do the students benefit, but also the parents at seeing that their child is doing better in school and is beginning to enjoy their daily activities, especially by coming to the after-school program.
